Fremde Welt / Strange World
A short film from my media design apprenticeship: "Strange World" translates the disorientation of entering open spaces into a claustrophobic audiovisual study – editing, grading and sound design supervision by me.
Strange World — a short film about agoraphobia
"Fremde Welt / Strange World" translates the disorientation of entering open, crowded spaces into a claustrophobic audiovisual study. The short film was made during my apprenticeship as media designer for image and sound and interweaves fragmented imagery with dissonant soundscapes to put the audience directly into the protagonist's escalating panic.

Context & Objectives
- Brief: Develop a short film that makes emotional states tangible through image composition and sound design.
- Context: A project within my apprenticeship as media designer for image and sound.
- Role: Editing, colour grading and supervision of sound and sound design.
Narrative & Sensory Concept
- Tight framing and reflections to make constricted perception visible.
- Layered recordings of breathing, traffic noise and whispered fragments to acoustically externalise inner tension.
- Desaturated colour palette with cyan accents to underline emotional isolation.
Production & Post-production
- Storyboards built around the shift between inner safety and outer sensory overload.
- Shot in deliberately staged settings to bring out contrasts and reflections.
- Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro to weave breathing rhythms into the ambient soundtrack.
- Graded selectively in Adobe SpeedGrade to sustain tension without losing detail.
Results & Impact
- Two minutes of immersive film that stood out for its sound design in internal screenings.
- Expanded my toolkit for emotional storytelling at the intersection of camera work and post-production.
- A foundation for later collaborations with composers and sound designers on mental-health-related material.
